Hi there! My name is Candace and I’ve been a licensed massage therapist in San Antonio, Texas for going on 10 years now.
During that time, I’ve
- maintained an active movement practice
- had 2 babies
- became a single mom
- experienced a whiplash injury and rehabilitated it
- Gone through breast cancer treatment with total bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction
- become a Pilates instructor with 700 hours of study
- Taken 200+ hours of continuing education in bodywork techniques and human anatomy
And this, my private practice in Helotes, is the culmination of all of those life lessons, and I’m so excited to be able to share my knowledge and experience with you whether you have chronic pain, a sports injury, are dealing with the rapidly changing needs of your pregnant or post-partum body, or really any other reason why you might be seeking bodywork for pain relief.
BUT, let me tell you that my version of that process is unique from all the Massage-In-A-Box sessions you may have had before, that left you either
- still in pain, now also frustrated, and with your wallet feeling lighter than before; or
- sore for days on end afterwards, waiting for the inflammation to end so that you can start feeling some relief already!
My style of massage has been developed and refined through my own experience rehabilitating my whiplash injury which left me with 3 cervical disc herniations, an overuse injury in my left shoulder from doing long days of table massage after table massage and carrying babies around, and managing the pain of continuing to do very physically demanding work well into my 3rd trimester of pregnancy with both kiddos. It is borne of what I learned actually worked to relieve my pain both as a client receiving bodywork, and as a practitioner learning the hard way how not to hurt myself in order to help others. It combines the biomechanics of traditional Eastern modalities like Thai, Ashiatsu, cupping therapy, and yoga with more modern understanding of the human nervous system through modalities such as neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, structural integration, and contemporary Pilates.
Enter Mat-Based Massage Therapy
In a session with me, you will remain clothed in comfortable, loose-fitting athletic wear to allow plenty of movement. Muscles were made to move right? That’s their job! So it only makes sense that to assess and treat dysfunctional movement patterns that we would use, well, MOVEMENT! And this is much easier to achieve during a mat session than a traditional Swedish or Deep Tissue style session where I would be fighting both the draping to keep your body covered, as well as the lotion to keep my grip on your skin! I will use various movements to assess range of motion restrictions, lengthen and stretch your muscles, rebalance improperly rotated muscle complexes surrounding a joint, and “trick” your nervous system into releasing holding patterns. I will also use not just my hands and arms, but also my legs and feet to apply slow, deep compressions that ease into the tissue, softening it less aggressively and with more targeted attention to detail than in a standard Deep Tissue session, wherein the therapist’s sharp elbow tends to force it’s way through dense muscle, only to glide right past the problem area!
My standard massage session is typically 2 hours, which I understand is a very long session to someone accustomed to the 1 hour table session that seems to be the industry standard. However, I’m not in this business to see as many bodies as possible cross my table (or mat, as the case may be.) I’m here to help as many people achieve lasting pain relief and improved well-being as possible by truly investing in them with every tool in my toolbox, and to educate them on how to take better care of themselves as well, ultimately ensuring that the relief they experience in the treatment room follows them out into the world and makes an impact in their everyday lives. So it’s important to me that we spend enough time together in session to really facilitate those changes to start happening in your body, and to get to know you well enough to effectively coach you into better self care habits at home.
So, I’ve decided to meet you in the middle with an introductory special for new customers, to entice you to try my unique style of massage in a longer session length, to open your heart and mind to what might be possible in your body. For first time clients only, I am offering a 90-minute session for $99, regular price $110. I do hope that you will come and visit me soon, and allow me the honor and privilege of serving you, your family, and your friends with my life’s passion of delivering truly effective, holistic, tuned-in therapeutic bodywork for lasting pain relief and improved quality of life.
